Bill McHugh

Bill McHugh is the President of the Morning Star Publishing Company and the Lapeer Group. He also serves his group as Publisher of the Morning Sun, a daily newspaper in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. McHugh joined the company when it purchased Brill Media in August 2002. Mr. McHugh began his career at The Miami Herald, a Knight -Ridder Newspaper, in the composing room. After graduating from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida, Knight-Ridder promoted Bill in 1979 to The Philadelphia Inquirer and Bulletin in their circulation development department. In 1986 he was promoted again to Circulation Manager of The St. Paul Pioneer Press, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Bill returned in 1988 to become Vice President/Circulation of The Philadelphia Daily News and in 1989 he was promoted again to Vice President and Business Manager of The Daily News. In 1991 Bill had the entrepreneurship itch and started his own business, the Philadelphia Metro Distributorship. After a successful business career he and a partner purchased and operated Ledger Newspapers of suburban Philadelphia where Bill served as Publisher. In late 1999 Bill was recruited by Brill Media of Evansville, Indiana to become President of the Mt. Pleasant, Michigan Morning Sun Newspapers. He began his new position as President and Publisher of Morning Star Publishing Company when 21st Century purchased the company from Brill Media in August of 2002. Bill is a native of Chicago but was raised in Miami, Florida where his mother worked as executive assistant to Alva Chapman, CEO of Knight-Ridder. McHugh brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as an owner of newspapers and a top executive of Knight-Ridder.

Paul Gunderson

Paul Gunderson is Vice President of Operations of the "Northern Group" (Morning Star Publishing Company and the Lapeer County Press Publications). Gunderson is responsible for managing and coordinating all operations procedures/reporting functions and scheduling all commercial printing for the "Northern Group". Gunderson has over 20 years of experience at Morning Star Publishing Company.

Vice President of Finance Northern Group*
George Voleta

George Voleta is Vice President of Finance of the "Northern Group" (Morning Star Publishing Company and the Lapeer County Press Publications). In 2002, Voleta started at the Lapeer Group as Vice President of Finance and recently was promoted, and now responsible for the financial operations of the "Northern Group". Prior to joining 21st Century Newspapers, Voleta gained16 years of newspaper experience at Pulitzer, Hollinger and Copley.

Vice President of Finance Northern Group*
Dennis Sammons

Dennis Sammons, Vice President of Finance for the Northern Group, is a graduate of University of Michigan-Flint. He holds a BBA in accounting and has successfully completed the two-year banking and financial management program offered by the University of Michigan graduate school in Ann Arbor. Prior to his employment with 21st Century Newspapers, he served as controller for a large commercial real estate developer, a large federal savings bank, and was on the corporate staff of Old Kent Financial Corp. During his career, Sammons has worked on a variety of assignments, including financial projections for mergers and acquisitions, establishing an asset/liability management department and serving as its first department head, and was the controller for OKFC's brokerage and insurance subsidiaries. As controller for a real estate development company, Sammons implemented the financial reporting system for all investors and helped to negotiate the sale of the organization.
